Whether you aspire to be a leader in your community, a leader at work, a leader in your home, or a leader among your friends, the core principles are the same. It all starts with the desire to want to serve others first. To make their needs a priority, and help them to achieve their goals. When I refer to the term 'leader' I simply mean the leader inside all of us. Not something that comes from power, a position, or a title. A leader is one who inspires others to achieve their best. The 'others' could be your children, your spouse/partner, your co-workers, or yourself.
Over the last few years, I have spent time studying and researching the habits and traits of great leaders. Through that journey, I have learned that there are many connections between the characteristics of great leadership at work and the same characteristics that lead to success in other areas of life. I often get asked how I balance the needs of my family, my job, and my personal wellness goals. My answer is simple.....I don't get overwhelmed with all the things, instead I just focus on this one simple concept: Just Do The Next Thing.
Whether you are working on becoming a better leader, or trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle, there shouldn't be 127 things you need to work on. Just find 1 or 2 things you want to modify, and start there. This makes it sustainable. If after a few weeks you want to add 1-2 more things to augment your journey then do it, but do not over complicate this. Just Do The Next Thing.
There are a series of steps you can take to begin the journey of becoming a great leader. The steps are not linear, but they can be learned. How to begin? Just learn one concept at a time, then the next, then the next. The Leadership Tips Section of this website is continuously updated, and shares a variety of concepts that can get you started.
